Joseph A. Cavossa, Sr. 89, of Franklin, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at home.
He was born on July 1, 1936, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late A. Lawrence and Filomena (DeAngelis) Cavossa. Joseph grew up in Boston before moving to Franklin in 1962 with his beloved wife, Marie (Puorro) Cavossa, to begin their family.
Joseph was a proud union cement mason with Local 534 for over 60 years, known for his strong work ethic, skill, and dedication. He was also a life member of the Franklin Elks Lodge for 54 years, and a former member of the Franklin Rod and Gun Club, Sons of Italy of Walpole, and the Knights of Columbus of Jamaica Plain.
After retiring, Joseph found joy in the simple things - gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was generous and thoughtful to a fault, the kind of man who would stop to help a stranger on the side of the road change a flat tire. His quiet kindness and gentle humor touched everyone he met.
Joseph will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Marie, and his children: Jane Moore and her husband David of Massachusetts, Karen Boucher of Franklin, Joseph Cavossa and his wife Rhonda of Uxbridge, and Marc Cavossa of Franklin.
He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren: David Moore and his wife Molly of Mendon, Nikki McInnis of Franklin, Mandi Rainville and her fiancé Anthony Bianco of Uxbridge, Kristy Apar and her husband Sarkis of Blackstone, Rikki Bertoni and his wife Jill of Bellingham, Joel Cavossa and his fiancé Noelle Sarno of Rhode Island, Leanna Cavossa of Rhode Island,Codi Boucher and his wife Danielle of Rhode Island, Cori Boucher and his wife Samantha of New York, and the late Daniel J. Moore of Milford.
He was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Davyn, Gianna, Tessa, Emma, RJ, Alina, Rian, Ashton, Sarkis, Isabella, Dexter, Alijah, Kaiden, Charli, Anthony, Aria, Josie, Jolene, Mira, Michael, and Mateo.
Joseph is survived by his siblings: Marion Farmer and her husband Jack of Foxboro, Anthony (Tony) Cavossa and his wife Joyce of Foxboro, Rosamond Davis of Attleboro, Theresa Pacella of Foxboro,
and Annette Seppala and her husband Jon of Cape Cod.
He was predeceased by his brother Carl Cavossa and sister Phyllis Engleheart.
Joseph will be remembered for his deep love of family, his unwavering generosity, and his lifetime of hard work and kindness.
His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched with his compassion, humor, and quiet strength.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday November 14th, at 10AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Franklin at 11AM.
