Joseph L. Ceriello

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Joseph L. Ceriello of Roslyn Heights on October 24, 2022 in his 75th year. Born on November 11, 1946 at North Country Community Hospital, now known as Glen Cove Hospital, Joey grew up in Roslyn Heights with his parents, Nunzio and Dorothy, and sister, Patricia, spent childhood summers visiting his mother's family farm in California, and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1965.
Joey then joined the Army, conducted basic training in South Carolina, and proudly served as a vehicle driver in the Vietnam War from January 1966 to October 1967. He had an uncanny ability to connect with others and fondly shared experiences interacting with Vietnamese and Thai natives.
In 1972, Joey married Diane and together they had two sons, Jake and Leigh, and two daughters, Julia and Theresa. Family was Joey's pride and joy. Joey worked at Ceriello Brothers Service Station on Powerhouse Road in Roslyn Heights where he enjoyed serving all members of the Roslyn and neighboring communities. Joey loved music, horses, cars, trains, being with family, including beloved nieces, nephews, and siblings-in-law, gardening, roasting homegrown tomatoes, making homemade ice cream, cutting down the Christmas tree, summer vacations in Misquamicut, Rhode Island, fly fishing in and camping along Connecticut's Housatonic River, Sunday drives through the nooks and crannies of Long Island, keeping in touch with former colleagues, and later in life, he discovered a talent for painting and fostered many friendships at his home away from home at the Port Washington Senior Community Center. Joey was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 509 in Port Washington. Joey is survived by his wife, children and their partners, Dawn, Kate, Alberto and Peter, his sister, and five cherished grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Roslyn Heights Funeral Home on Monday October 31st, 3-7PM. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday November 1st at St. Mary's Church, Roslyn, 10:30AM. Interment to follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Old Westbury. Please join in celebrating Joey's life at a 1:30PM reception at Mim's Restaurant, 235 Roslyn Road, Roslyn Heights; all are welcome.
