Joseph Chioda Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home - Turtle Creek on Mar. 24, 2022.
Of Monroeville, age 75, died unexpectedly in presence of his family on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.
Dear husband of Mary Ann (Gioiosa) Chioda of 56 years.
Loving father of Joseph (Janette) Chioda of Adams Twp., Lisa (Chuck) Ritchey of Murrysville, and Amy (John) Lewellen of Plum.
Cherished grandfather of Haley and Madison Chioda; Morgan, Taylor and Charlee Ritchey; Kelsi and Lexi Lewellen.
Beloved brother of Marianne (Tim O'Leary) Coyne, Steven, Paul (Becky), and David (Christi) Chioda.
Joe is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Joe came from a Christian family and put the Lord first in his life. He was a gospel music fan and his journey with the music he loved began in 1968 when he formed a gospel group called "The Tribunes", singing the lead part for them for over a decade. They recorded several albums and traveled to churches around the Pittsburgh tri-state area. During the same time period he opened a successful auto body business named "J & E Super Recon" located in McKeesport, PA. Joe then sang in another gospel group, Spiritual Witness throughout the 1990's. In 1991, he began the Streets Of Gold Ministry which included a radio program that he DJ'd for KHB radio in Pittsburgh, promoting gospel concerts, and he was the director and publisher of the Streets of Gold Magazine. One of his major accomplishments was bringing Southern Gospel Music farther north of the country into the state of Pennsylvania through the creation of the Annual Streets of Gold Eastern Quartet Convention. His first convention was held at the former Palace Inn in Monroeville, PA where he brought over 30 gospel groups together to perform over a span of three days. Many thousands attended Streets Of Gold Concerts throughout the years. The Streets of Gold attendees and all of his friends meant the world to him. In addition, he was a member of the uniform division of the Allegheny County Sheriff's Reserve department for over 40 years and then went on to become a Chaplain. He was officially honored with a gold Chaplains Badge in 2021. In later years Joe enjoyed keeping the tradition of a garden going in his backyard which was started by his father and grandfather. Most of all he adored his wife and cherished all of his family, especially his granddaughters who referred to him affectionately as "Pappy".
