Joseph William Clifford, age 90, of Braintree, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine (Lerro) Clifford.

Born in Brockton on May 30, 1935, to the late Claire (Gilbert) and Frederick Clifford. Raised in Brockton and graduated High School, Class of 1954. In 1955 Joe joined the United States Army and proudly served his country until 1961.

After his service Joe worked at several health care facilities, including the Brockton VA, which was particularly meaningful to him, as it allowed Joe to honor those who had served their country, giving back to fellow veterans and ensuring they received the care and dignity they deserved. He also worked at the Paul Dever State School in Taunton, from where he retired, his role extended beyond mere duties; he became a trusted ally and advocate for those who relied on the institution's support. Joe's colleagues and the individuals he served remember him as someone who treated every person with respect, patience, and sincere compassion.

Outside of his professional life, Joe was the embodiment of a true Boston sports enthusiast. His love for the teams-especially the Boston Bruins-was rivaled only by his unwavering loyalty. For countless seasons, Joe held season tickets for the Bruins, attending games with excitement. The thrill of the rink, the roar of the crowd, and the pulse of the game became cherished rituals in his life. More than anything, Joe's heart belonged to the animals he loved so dearly, all animals, especially dogs. The bond he shared with his beloved black lab mix, Cliffy, and his Boston terrier, Claire, was profound. Joe was also a collector of wildlife art, drawn especially to pieces featuring wolves and eagles-animals he admired for their strength and grace. A fanatic of classic movies, and also 1950s and patriotic music where he would always be seen singing and tapping his feet to the songs that moved him.

He was a kind, gentle, and caring man whose strength and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. The legacy of his compassion and integrity will endure in the hearts of all who loved him.

Survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Joe was also the brother of the late Charles E. Clifford and Louise B. Sweeney.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St. Taunton, from 10:00am-11:00am, with a service in the funeral home at 11:00am, followed by a burial at Cedar Knoll Cemetery, 175 Staples St., East Taunton. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
