Joseph Francis Coyle Jr., 80, of Fords, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 14, 2024, surrounded by the love of family and friends and in the arms of his devoted wife while she was singing to him their favorite John Denver song, "Poems, Prayers and Promises".
Joe was born on August 15, 1943, in Astoria, New York and had resided in Fords for more than sixty years. He attended Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords where he met his wife Barbara Ann (Toth), walking to church. They were married just shy of sixty years this October.
Joe was a Machinist by trade and a retiree from Anheuser-Busch in Newark. In his spare time, Joe was an avid reader and enjoyed watching British mysteries and sitcoms. His love for music expanded a vast repertoire from The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor to Frank Sinatra. He could often be found on his backyard porch, which was his oasis, enjoying a scotch and smoking a cigar. He enjoyed summers at the Jersey Shore and Autumns in Vermont with his wife and three daughters. As a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, he marveled in hiking many mountains in the Northeast culminating with his greatest accomplishment of reaching the summit on Mount Washington, New Hampshire. In his later years, he boastfully touted the name Pop-Pop and lovingly adored his four grandchildren.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Madeline Coyle; father and mother-in-law, Louis and Marion Toth; son-in-law Norman Schroeder and brother-in-law, Louis Toth.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; three beloved daughters: Colleen Romeo and her husband Tony; Maureen Schroeder and Sharon Coyle; four cherished grandchildren: Alexandra, Katarina, Mikail and Noah; brother, Timothy Coyle and his wife, Susan; brother-in-law, Thomas Toth; sister-in-law, Lucy Toth; nieces and nephews; and his lifelong dearest friends, Pino and Debbie Picinich and Ron and Cookie Jarka.
A celebration of his life is being planned and will be disclosed at a later date. In the words of Denver's song as he transitioned, "I Have to Say it Now, It's Been a Good Life All in All."
Contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of one's choice.
Cremation was done privately under the direction of Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863.
