Remembering Joseph James De Vivo (January 1, 1935 – November 25, 2025)
Joseph James De Vivo, "Joe", was the first-born son of Josephine and Aniello De Vivo. He was "big brother" to Connie and Neil and grew up on 7th Avenue in Brooklyn, NY (Bay Ridge) near Dyker Beach Park and Golf Course.
As a teen, Joe rode the ferry from Brooklyn to attend Staten Island New York's Ralph R. McKee CTE High School. An avid music lover who grew up in a musically talented family, he was a DJ. Joe worked at his Father's business, Silverwood Construction Corp, in Clark New Jersey, where he met his soon-to-be bride, Veronica Catherine Kubeck. They married in April of 1959 and Dad enlisted in the Armed Forces in May. Over the next seven years they welcomed five daughters (Marguerite, Kathleen, Susan, Lisa, Stephanie).
The young couple started out in an apartment in Elizabeth, NJ; lived shortly in Virginia, then Skyline Drive in Clark, followed by Sweet Briar Drive in a home built by Silverwood Construction Corp. Joe was very active in the community and played on the recreational softball team.
After Silverwood Construction disbanded, Joe worked odd jobs that included making deliveries to Manhattan. The family moved to Elmora Avenue in Elizabeth NJ and Joe started his career at Eastern Airlines. He continued playing softball in the Newark International Airport League and was on their 1976 championship team. After Eastern Airlines was bought out by Continental and Continental disbanded, Joe freelanced in construction and moved to Belle Harbor, NY and eventually Annandale, NJ.
Sadly, Joe was diagnosed with bladder cancer in September 2025, ended up on hospice care in November. He left us peacefully at approximately 4:45pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 with his sister and daughters by his side.
Joe is survived by his sister Connie, his daughters, Marguerite Kosch (predeceased by her husband Richard), Susan Mandell (husband Anthony), his seven Grandchildren, great granddaughter and 2 great grandsons and great-great-granddaughter. He is predeceased by his brother Neil and daughters Kathleen, Stephanie, and Lisa. Rest in Peace.
