Obituary of Joseph Micheal Del Vecchio, Sr.
Joseph M. Del Vecchio, Sr., 53, of Dunellen, New Jersey, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey.
Born on August 23, 1971, in Somerville, New Jersey, Joseph was the beloved son of Charles Del Vecchio, Sr. and Cora Del Vecchio. He was raised in North Plainfield, where he graduated from high school before pursuing a degree in automotive and diesel technology at Lincoln Technical Institute. With a strong work ethic and a natural ability for mechanics, Joseph went on to work for a number of companies in various capacities, always striving to provide for his family and take pride in his craft.
Later in life, Joseph earned his real estate license and worked as a realtor for several years before returning to his technical roots. For the past eight years, he was employed as a generator technician at Bold Electric in North Plainfield-a position that reflected his hands-on skill, reliability, and tireless dedication. In addition to his full-time roles, Joseph often took on side jobs in a wide range of fields, demonstrating a can-do spirit and a steadfast commitment to hard work.
Over 20 years ago, Joseph relocated to Dunellen, New Jersey, where he would spend the remainder of his life. He became a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, where he was actively involved in parish life. When his children were younger, Joseph volunteered with the church's youth group and other ministries, always eager to contribute to the community that had become his home.
One of Joseph's greatest passions was martial arts, which played a central role in his life. He practiced for many years and deeply valued the discipline, strength, and focus that Shorin-rye karate, Muso Shindenryu laido, Daitaryu, Aikijujutso, Shinkageryu Hyoho brought him. His commitment to martial arts extended beyond personal practice; it shaped his character, helped guide his children, and connected him with a tight-knit community of fellow martial artists.
Joseph also found joy in riding his motorcycle, finding freedom and peace on the open road. Yet at the heart of everything he did was his love for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. No matter how demanding his schedule, Joseph never missed Tuesday family dinner-a tradition he started and steadfastly maintained, which became a cherished ritual for his entire family. That unwavering dedication to togetherness and love will remain one of his lasting legacies.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Christine Del Vecchio, his children, Joseph Jr., Victoria, and Nick; his loving parents, Charles Sr. and Cora Del Vecchio; and his sisters, Jennifer Del Vecchio and Nicole Del Vecchio Delmonte and her husband, Kevin. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Charles III, Christopher, Lisette, Breanna(Mark), Steven, Natalie, and Hailey; and his great-niece, Layla.
He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Del Vecchio, Jr., in 2018.
Joseph leaves behind not only his immediate family but also a large circle of extended relatives, fellow parishioners, martial arts brothers and sisters, coworkers, and dear friends who will forever miss his strong presence, generous heart, and deep love for life.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, New Jersey. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 15, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Dunellen, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
