Joseph Aloysius Michael Dicks ('just Joe' to many loved ones and friends), 70, of Cumming, GA, found heavenly rest on June 23, 2025.
He finds himself in fine company among his parents Michael and Theresa Dicks, parents-in-law Jack and Rose Rempe, his brother Michael, his sister Anne, brothers-in-law Jimmy Soto, Chuck Rempe, and Paul Holt, and his sisters-in-law Mary Dicks and Karen Blizzard.
He waits (in no hurry) to meet again his wife Allison; daughter and son-in-law Mary Beth and Michael McLarty; siblings (and those-in-law) Kathy Zebzda, Roz Soto, Maggie and Bobby Pagan, Donna and Mike Sheridan, Tom and Irene Dicks, Bernie and Jinky Dicks, Helen and Manny Zamora, and Tim and Kelly Dicks.
Also his siblings-in-law (and in-in-law) John Rempe, Richard Rempe and Martha Huntenburg, Steve Rempe, Mark and Mina Rempe, Stacy Beigel, Mike and Patty Rempe, Cathy and Bruce Baumgarten, Melissa Holt, and Connie Laguardia, and more than half-a-hundred nieces and nephews, to whom he loved to be Uncle Joe.
Joe studied theology and psychology at Iona University, graduating in or around 1981 (Nana would know the exact year). In 1999 he graduated again from North Metro Technical College where he studied Computer Information Systems and made a couple of cool computer games in the process.
Joe's relationship with Christ extended beyond himself to touch everyone he met. In his teens, he gathered the youth of his community to Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) at St. Frances de Chantal Church in Throggs Neck, Bronx, NY. He continued to share his faith through youth ministry with Holy Family Catholic Church in Middletown, MD, and the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Alpharetta, GA.
Joe loved music (and had impeccable taste), played guitar, and wrote songs, but there was little he loved more than making someone laugh (or groan) with a perfectly timed joke, or just punning around with his siblings. He also cooked, and made a damn good cheesecake and chocolate mousse (and like his family members, too many other good things to count).
Joe's funeral mass will be Monday, June 30, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. For distant friends unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/stacatholicchurch/.
A visitation will be held Sunday, June 29 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Northside Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send your favorite story about Joe to [email protected]. For those with generous hearts, the family will kindly accept donations of any number of additional Joe stories to [email protected].
