Joseph Anthony Dorenkamp passed away on March 27, 2024, at the Citizen Medical Center, Colby, Kansas. He was born in Colby Kansas, on December 17, 1942, to Anthony B and Anna A (Hanzlicek) Dorenkamp. He was the youngest of two children. Joe attended a country school until 7th grade and then went on to Graduate from Selden High School in 1961.
Joe met and fell in love with Laura Vahling of New Almelo, Kansas. They were married on December 28, 1965, and made their home on the family homestead SE of Selden. Joe was a farmer & cattle man plus drove the School Bus for the Unified School District 412 for 32 years.
Joe enjoyed going to as many events as he could with his grandkids. He also enjoyed visiting with neighbors, helping out anyone that needed anything, and always liked joking around with people.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers-in-law Dick Kathka, William Vahling & David Gallagher.
Surviving family includes his loving wife, Laura of Selden; Daughter, Loretta (Corey) Smith of Weskan; Son, Anthony (Michelle) Dorenkamp of Hoxie: Granddaughters, Brooke (Nick) Haverkamp of Manhattan & Ashlyn Dorenkamp of Hays; Grandsons, Joseph & Blake Dorenkamp of Hoxie; Sister, Ann Kathka of Humansville MO plus many nieces, nephews & cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024, 10:30 A.M., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden, Kansas. Visitation will be held Monday, April 1, 2024, from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with family receiving friends from 5:30 P.M. unit 7:00 P.M. all at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden, Kansas. The Vigil and Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 P.M., in the church immediately following the visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Sheridan County Benefit Walk or the Hoxie Hotrodders Lions Club and may be sent in care of Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, PO Box 987, Hoxie, Kansas 67740.
