Joseph Anthony Duschl III, 86, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Evergreen Hospice in the Masonic Health Center. He was born Monday, June 13, 1938, in Lancaster to the late Joseph Anthony Jr., and Catherine Edna (Ganse) Duschl.
Joseph was a graduate of McCaskey High School in 1958 and served in the US Coast Guard 1958-1964. He loved working with his hands and learned the construction trade. He was a foreman during the building of both Park City and the Peach Bottom power plant. After building several houses, he completed reality training. He enjoyed the interaction with people that came with selling and appraising homes for over 30 years.
He enjoyed golfing, Penn State football and was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge no. 43 F&AM of Lancaster, PA. He loved his family and friends with all his heart and always kept his community in his prayers. He helped feed the hungry and helped his neighbors with construction projects when he lived in Hickory Grove SC and in York PA. When he moved to Masonic Village, he made sure new residents knew where everything was and how to get around. He wanted to make them feel welcomed and find something to do to keep themselves active. Saturdays were "Movie Nights with Joe". As a self taught artist he helped teach art class to other residents, and learned to knit, giving everything away to fellow residents. He earned a statewide excellence in the arts for people over 80 years of age award for his painting of a sailing ship. He was always active in church, singing in choirs in Hickory Grove and at Sell Chapel at Masonic Village. He was a friend to everyone, loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by a son, Joseph Anthony Duschl IV (Roseanne) of Lebanon; a daughter, Lisa Echterling (Christopher) of Red Lion; a grandson, Benjamin Echterling (Alexandra) of Detroit; a granddaughter, Alea Echterling of Lancaster. He was predeceased his first wife, Frances A. Bihl; second wife, Shirley Breinig Duschl and ex-wife, Brenda Stokes.
Family and friends are invited for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 19th at 2 PM in the assembly room of the Health Care Center at Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Masonic Villages c/o Office of Mission Advancement and Development, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.

I did not know Joseph well, but grew up next to his parents Joe and Edna on 4th street in Lancaster. My grandfather, James Becker, lived next to Joe and Edna. Joe was always helping me build things and manage around the house as I was growing up. Great memories as a kid growing up on 4th Street.

Joe, you brought so much happiness to your friends living on the 3rd floor of the Freemason's Building. Your kind and positive words brought light to everyone's life, even in their darkest moment. Even though you moved to a new world that knows no sorrow, sickness and death, for me it's not a "goodbye," it's a "see ya later 'ol friend."
