Ronald “Opie” W. McGann, 76, of Annville, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025. He was born April 23, 1949 to the late Henry E. McGann, Jr. and Muriel J. (Hardy) McGann. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Phyllis (Anderson) McGann.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his one exceptional daughter, Melanie; sisters, Shirley “Sam” Corrigan and Arlene Stike.
Ron grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where his lifelong love of the outdoors began. He enjoyed hiking, camping, and Geocaching, always finding peace and adventure in nature. From an early age, Scouting played a major role in his life beginning as a Bobcat and advancing through Webelos, Tenderfoot, and ultimately achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. As an adult, he dedicated over a decade to mentoring young Scouts as a Scoutmaster and was honored with the Silver Beaver Award for his service.
Ron proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years, flying aboard P-3 Orion aircraft in the hunt for Soviet submarines. Following his military service, he built and operated his own successful hardscaping business for 15 years.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 11 AM at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078. A time of viewing will be held from 10 AM until the start of the service. Burial will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the 49’ers Camping Association, Cj/O Rodney Farley 4831 Springtop Dr., Harrisburg, PA 17111 or to Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org
