Cochran ~ Mr. Joseph W. Fisher, age 78, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Fisher Funeral Home. Interment will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will visit friends from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service Thursday, in the chapel.
Joe was born, January 19, 1946, the son of the late Mr. J. J. Fisher and Mrs. Arrie Horton Fisher, and was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Fisher and Butch Redmond, who he served as guardian for for many years. He was a lifelong resident of Cochran, attended Georgia Military Academy and was a graduate of Cochran High School Class of 1964. He was known to be a tough football player while in school. He continued his education at Middle Georgia College and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. After completing his Bachelor's Degree in Mortuary Science, he served two years in the United States Army before returning to Cochran and working in the family business with his father and brother at Fisher Funeral Home.
Joe loved Cochran and Bleckley County and served the people in many ways through the years. He was a member of The Cochran Masonic Lodge #217 for over fifty years and served as Lodge Master during that time, Cochran ~ Bleckley Jaycees, Cochran Rotary Club, Cochran Fire Department and Rescue, Bleckley Memorial Hospital Board, Middle Georgia College Diamond Club, Middle Georgia College Board of Trustees, Cochran Men's Club, The Royal Touchdown Club, and Bleckley County Training Center. He was a member of Cochran First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was passionate about the youth in our community and always looked for ways to support and mentor them in whatever way he could. He enjoyed playing golf, University of Georgia Football, and spending time on trips or having meals with friends.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Kathryn Davis Fisher; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Joe's memory to Cochran First Baptist Church or Sacred Roots Farm.
