Joseph Robert Frechette - October 21, 1956 – October 4, 2025
Joseph Robert Frechette, 68, of Quincy, MA, (formerly of South Boston) died peacefully at his home after a long battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He was surrounded by his loving wife, Donna Lee Frechette and many family members.
A successful businessman and avid fisherman and golfer, Joe had a quick-witted sense of humor and he loved making his friends and family laugh. He attended elementary and middle school at St. Augustine's in South Boston and high school at South Boston High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Donna Lee Frechette and they were happily married for 43 years.
For more than 30 years, Joe was a well-known lighting sales and controls professional at Boston Light Source where he was instrumental in implementing projects that shaped the Boston skyline. These included the Seaport District, several universities, college dorms, athletic buildings and public transportation. A salesman by trade, he spent his leisure time with his beloved wife at Quincy Bay Marina on their fishing boat, Frech Air, or fishing and golfing with his childhood friends. He was known by his friends as larger than life; fiercely loyal, funny and generous. A beloved husband, son, brother, brother-in-law, nephew, cousin and uncle; he will be remembered for his amazing smile, quick wit, friendship and fighting spirit.
Joe is survived by his wife Donna Lee Frechette of Quincy. Predeceased by his parents Ferdinand "Ralph" and Nellie Frechette; predeceased by his sister Maryann Ginelli (husband Bob) of Marshfield; predeceased by his brothers Ralph Frechette of Rockland and Paul Frechette of Brockton; survived by his brother William of Brockton; sister Ellen Smith of Florida; sister Claire Laurinaitis of Dorchester; brother John and his wife Ann Marie of South Boston; brother Jim and his wife Monica of North Carolina; sister Chris Stanford and her husband Gerry of Marshfield; brother Gene and his wife Kathy of South Boston; brother Frank and his wife Arleen of Dorchester; predeceased by brother-in-law's George Lee of Quincy and David Lee of South Boston, and sister-in law Janet Lee Rosemond of Hanson. Survived by sister-in-law Marsha Lee of Duxbury; brother-in-law Michael Lee of Florida; brother-in-law Thomas Lee of West Roxbury; and sister-in-law Karen Cavaleri and her husband John of Florida. Joe also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends.
Visitation hours and a brief memorial service will be held Friday, October 10, 2025 from 10am-2pm at Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, South Boston, followed by interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe's memory to Compassionate Care ALS, P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574.

He and Donna were the best neighbors we ever had. A great loss but we trust he is in a better place ...with a cold one and a golf club in his hand. Salute.
