Jeannine Marie-Rosalie Fréchette (Demers) peacefully passed away at her home in Shelby Township, Michigan, on March 20, 2025, surrounded by her husband and children.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, André Fréchette, her children and their spouses, Normand Fréchette (Nancy), Daniel Fréchette (Michelle), Andréa Swicegood (Charles), and Marc Fréchette (Amy) and her cherished grandchildren: Nicholas, Aimée, Isabelle, Adelle, Geneviève, Hyder, Madeleine, Marielle, Luc André and Julien.
Born on August 18, 1935, in Lyster, Québec, Jeannine was the fifth of ten children born to Alfred and Hilda Demers. As a young lady, Jeannine earned a degree in teaching and taught the fourth grade. She also completed finishing school where she learned household management. In 1962, she was part of the first Canadian choir to participate at the Choralies Festival in France, known for its singing and choreography.
In 1966, Jeannine and André married and moved to Detroit, Michigan, where they started their family. Jeannine focused on being a devoted wife and mother. In her spare time, she taught French to Montessori children and volunteered with the Society of St. Jean Baptiste in Detroit serving as a liaison between chapters in the U.S. and Canada. Her pastimes were reading, sewing, gardening, and creating stained-glass. In retirement, Jeannine and André traveled across the United States, visited their relatives in Québec and spent time with their children and grandchildren.
Jeannine will be remembered for her unconditional love, dedication, spirituality, and the joy she brought to her family, friends and those around her.
