Mark Ewald Burg, a longtime resident of Sterling Heights, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, at the age of 79.
Born on May 8, 1945, in Hamtramck, Michigan, Mark was the beloved son of Ewald and Stella (née Podolski) Burg. He grew up in Warren and graduated from Warren High School in 1962. Mark was known for his tireless work ethic and compassion, spending many years in service-based careers that reflected his heart for others.
He owned his own business, Superior Mobile Cleaning in Sterling Heights, where he took pride in cleaning semi-trucks and buildings. Mark also had a natural talent for interior design and décor where he worked alongside his wife, Shirley, in her Decorating Den business where his meticulous wallpapering, painting, and installing window treatments could be seen in many homes as well as the Gramer Funeral Home in Shelby Township. This led him to his position as a dedicated funeral assistant at Gramer Funeral Home for over 20 years.
A man of God, deep in faith and service, Mark was the Corps Sargent Major at The Salvation Army Royal Oak Citadel for over 35 years. He was known for his big heart, warm personality, and sense of humor that could bring a smile to anyone's face.
On June 2, 1973, Mark married the love of his life, Shirley, in Warren, Michigan. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Shirley Burg; his children, Kim (the late Mark) Gallop, Jim (Carol) Burg, Kolleen (Dale) Wood, Steven (Susan) Burg, and Kristen (Phil) Duncan; nine grandchildren: Devin, Jeffrey, Chalyn, Alexandra, Jacquelyn, Elijah, Joshua, Olivia & Isabelle; and seven great grandchildren: Grant, Brady, Jameson, Elizabeth, Brooks, Charlotte & Greenly. He is also survived by his sister Patricia (Mike) Pavich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ewald and Stella; his great-grandson, James; his sister, Marcia Opalewski; and his brother, Marlin Burg.
Visitation for Mark will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, with his funeral service beginning at 12:00 PM, with a luncheon to follow after, at The Salvation Army Royal Oak Citadel, 3015 N Main St, Royal Oak, MI 48073.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army in Mark's memory. His kindness, humor, and generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
