Alan Ernest Hamilton

Alan Ernest Hamilton, a devoted family man and longtime resident of Shelby Township, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of May 12, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 94 years old.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 15, 1931, to the late Herbert W. and Florence M. (née Price) Hamilton, Alan graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School in Riverside, Illinois in 1949. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Engineering degree from General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan, in 1956.
After completing his schooling, Alan enjoyed a distinguished 34-year career as a mechanical engineer with General Motors until his retirement.
On April 14, 1956, Alan married the love of his life, Phyllis E. Peters, in Markham, Illinois. Together they raised a family and shared a joyful and faithful marriage spanning nearly seven decades. Alan was a loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather whose steady presence will be deeply missed.
A man of faith, Alan was a longtime, active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica, where he contributed to both the financial and social ministries. He was also a dedicated volunteer at Crittenton Hospital for over 20 years. His sense of community extended to his involvement in organizations including the GACC Tisch Tennis Club, the Detroit Area Woodturners, and the Timberline Meadows Homeowner's Board.
Alan is survived by his cherished wife, Phyllis Hamilton; his children, Mark (Debbie Carmouche) Hamilton and Lyle (Annette) Hamilton; and his beloved granddaughter, Kayla Claire Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Earle G. Hamilton and Wayne R. Hamilton.
Visitation for Alan will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Gramer Funeral Home, Diener Chapel, 48271 Van Dyke Avenue, Shelby Township, Michigan, 48317. A funeral service will follow at the same location at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
