Dale Edwin Diener, a beloved resident of Harsens Island, Michigan, and formerly of Utica, passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 95 years old.
Born on June 22, 1930, in Ray Township, Michigan, Dale was the son of Clarence and Zella Diener. He was raised with strong values of service, integrity, and compassion-principles that shaped the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.
A proud graduate of Romeo High School, Class of 1949, Dale went on to attend the University of Michigan before earning his degree in Mortuary Science from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He became a licensed funeral director in 1953.
Dale served honorably in the United States Air Force and dedicated his life to both country and community. In the early years of his career, he operated an ambulance service in Shelby Township and supported both the local fire and police departments. He lived each day with a servant's heart.
In 1960, Dale and his beloved wife, Donna, founded the Diener Funeral Home in Utica, which they operated for 20 years. Their commitment to compassionate care helped lay the foundation for what is now known as Gramer Funeral Home, Diener Chapel-a lasting tribute to the Diener family's legacy of service.
For over 30 years, Dale enjoyed the tranquility and beauty of life on Harsens Island. He also cherished winters spent at his second home in Cape Coral, Florida. A member of the Lions Club and Masons, Dale believed deeply in community service and giving back.
Dale is survived by his loving children: Dawn (John) Drozd, Danna (Doug) Haba, and Daryl (Harold) Weeks. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren-Amanda, Adam, Matthew, Taylor, Mitchell, Jeffrey, and Amelia-and a cherished great-grandfather to his great-grandchildren.
Dale was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna-the love of his life, whom he met in eighth grade and with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership-as well as by his brother, William "Bill" Diener, and his parents.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Dale on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gramer Funeral Home, Diener Chapel, located at 48271 Van Dyke Avenue, Shelby Township, MI 48317 (between 21 and 22 Mile Roads).
A Celebration of Life service will be held the following morning on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., also at Gramer Funeral Home, Diener Chapel.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Dale's name. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Dale, please visit our floral store.
