Robert Burns McGoff, a longtime resident of Sterling Heights and formerly of Washington, passed away peacefully after an illness on November 9, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born on March 27, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, Robert was the son of Thomas George and Matilda Margaret (née Diskin) McGoff. He grew up in Detroit, where he graduated from Detroit High School of Commerce and developed his Episcopal faith.
A proud Scot, Robert cherished his Scottish heritage; his father hailed from Glasgow and his mother from Liverpool. He attended the Highland Games annually during their August Festival, celebrating Scottish culture and heritage. Additionally, Robert was a member of the Evola School of Music's Organ Club, where he shared his talent as a gifted organist. He also enjoyed bowling-once achieving a perfect 300 game.
Robert's professional career was varied and accomplished. He started out as a licensed builder and the owner of Holly Garages, helping his family with home construction projects throughout the years. He worked as an accountant and manager for large lumber companies, and eventually obtained insurance licenses to build his own insurance agency. In addition, he obtained his real estate license, utilizing it as an agent in Hawaii.
Robert married the love of his life, Marie Josephine Theresa (née Guillaumier) McGoff, on September 29, 1956, eloping in Gary, Indiana. Together they shared nearly seven decades of marriage, raising a family and creating countless cherished memories until Marie's passing on July 28, 2025.
Robert is survived by his loving children, Holly (Steve) Hale, Robert (Erica) McGoff, Dawn (Ed) Radzioch, Joel McGoff, Duane (Denice) McGoff, Kerry (Danja) McGoff, Dara (Jeff) Craig, Shawn (Nancy) McGoff, and Ian (Tracy) McGoff; son-in-law, Mike Craig; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie McGoff; daughter, Renee Craig; and parents, Thomas and Matilda McGoff.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Gramer Funeral Home Diener Chapel, 48271 Van Dyke Avenue, Shelby Township, MI 48317.
A chapel service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Guardian Angel Cemetery, 4701 North Rochester Road, Rochester, MI 48306.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make contributions in memory of Robert may do so to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, the American Diabetes Association, or the Alzheimer's Association.
