Joseph James Froehling, the fourth of seven children, who grew up on several farms in Watkins MN, entered Eternal Life on April 4th, 2025. Proceeded in death by his parents Matthew and Frances, siblings Bernice, Eldred, Eugene and Diane, and his beloved wife Jeanie,
He met Jeanie while attending Kimball High School and they were married in August of 1952. Soon after, Joe and Jeanie moved to Excelsior, where they raised their five children. As a couple, Joe and Jeanie were inseparable and displayed a dedication to each other that is rarely seen today. On August 9th, 2017, Joe and Jeanie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Joe was a man of high integrity who devoted himself to faith, family, friends and community.
Joe is survived by his children and their spouses; Ron and Lisa, Dave and Shelley, Randy and Linda, Rick and Cindy, and Kristi and Dave, brother Donald, sister Margaret, sister-in-law Leila Froehling, sister-in-law Margaret Froehling and sister-in-law Betty Lou Hoeft. In addition, his grandchildren Leah, Shana and Jimmy (Katie) Froehling, Christina (Jason) Sullivan and Joey (Sarah) Froehling, Hannah and Rachel Froehling, Alli (Brian) Dubowski, Kate (Nate) Bell, Jack (Lauren) Sandstrom and Maxx (Moriah) Sandstrom. Great grandchildren Mavis Froehling, Alyssa and Kylie Sullivan, Madison and Amelia Dubowski, Ruby and Walter Bell, and Ava Sandstrom.
Joe loved golfing, hunting, and fishing with his family and friends. Most of all he loved sitting on the deck at the cabin that he and Jeanie built while watching the fisherman and listening to the loons. Joe and Jeanie also loved to travel. They visited many places but none more beautiful than the Sistine Chapel. He also visited Luxembourg where he re-connected with relatives and ended up uniting many of his Minnesota family members with the relatives whom he fondly referred to as the "Luxembourgers".
Joe was drafted to the Army in 1953 and served during the Korean war. After Joe returned from the Army, he attended school and became a CPA. He was hired by a firm in Excelsior, soon becoming a partner and working there for over 40 years.
Joe was a devout Catholic. At St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Joe served as Board of Education Chair, Finance Committee Chair, was a founding member of the Excelsior Knights of Columbus and first Chairman of the Western Roundup fundraiser. He also served as a member and past Chairman of the Archdiocese Board of Education and was an Affiliated Member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Lake Minnetonka Shores and Summerwood of Chanhassen for all the love and care that they provided for Joe during his final days.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 11th, 2025, at 11:30 am at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 680 Mill St., Excelsior, MN. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Reception to follow the service. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery to follow reception.
