My son, Joseph Phillip Gerber II was a sweet child, who grew up in Texas. He visited his grandparents and great grandparents in Indiana in the summers where he got to do all the fun things a child does on summer vacations like driving tractors, learning to jog, and designing quilt squares. He was a joy to be around.
As a teen, Joe worked at a restaurant in downtown Houston and carpooled with me. I enjoyed his company on those drives and was sorry when that ended. He would often bring home food from work and create an impromptu feast for his friends. He started helping me cook when he was just a little guy, and this culinary passion stayed with him for life.

On our first date, Joe was telling jokes and stories that had me laughing the whole date. My daughters will remember him as a man with all the jokes. If you needed a laugh - he was the one to ask because Joe could get you to laugh, no matter your mood. They would also tell you he loved his pecan pies. If you bought Joe a pecan pie, you would become his friend for life.
In his spare time, you could find Joe working on his motorcycle, creating wood projects, and making pens on his lathe. Joe was also an avid podcast listener. He would help anyone if he could. He loved his family till his last breath.
