Joseph Harding Griffith, 80, passed away on November 13th at his home in Clarksville. He was born on August 21, 1945 to the late Jack and Anne Griffith.
He was predeceased by his brother, David Griffith, Jr.
Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Smith Griffith. Also surviving are a son, Kyle and Lynn of Pawleys Island, SC and a daughter, Jodi and Russell Thomas of Clarksville. Joe has three grandsons, Jonathan and Nikki of Pawleys Island, SC, Jackson Griffith of Charleston, SC and Henry Thomas of Clarksville; and great-grandchildren, Becca, Lucas, Jayce, and Amelia Griffith of Pawleys Island, SC. He is also survived by sisters, Betty Loftis and Jackie and Wayne Claiborne; brother, Hilliard Griffith; sisters-in-law, Pam and James Bohannon and Nancy and Ralph Owens.
Joe graduated from Bluestone High School and Smithdeal-Massey Business School. He was a veteran and served in the 82nd Airborne from 1965-1967. He was a master woodworker, an avid gardener, and a cook. He loved coaching Dixie Youth Baseball and midget football; he still called them “his boys.”
Special thanks to 1st Care at Home Hospice, Karen, Devin, Morgan and Tony. Also, special thanks to caregiver and friend, Michelle Knighton.
There will be a private celebration of life at a later date. The family will be receiving friends at the home, 104 Grace Street, Clarksville, VA 23927.
