Joseph Alexander Haight

Joseph Alexander Haight was born on February 19, 2007, in Murray, Utah, to Tara and Bill Haight. He was the fourth of seven children and valiantly tried to help balance the female-to-male ratio with his brother, Will. He grew up in Sandy and Lehi, Utah, where he attended Summit Academy and participated in the German immersion program with his sister, Ellie. Joe attended Blackfoot High School, where he loved studying auto mechanics, information technology, creative writing, mathematics, and philosophy. Joe never found a subject that he couldn't argue both sides.

Joseph shared a love of education with his mother. He was always seeking to further develop his mind and talents. For Christmas this past year, he requested college math textbooks, and when his mother asked him what class they were for, he told her they were just for his personal learning.

He loved notebooks, writing, and pens. He could tell you everything you ever wanted to know about pen makes and models and some things that you didn't even know you needed to know. He loved music and video games. He loved playing League of Legends with his brother, Will, so that they could spend time together while Will has been going to school across the country. His favorite game was Destiny 2. At times, he would stay up late at night playing and speaking into the microphone so loudly everyone in the house could hear.

Joe always had a strong voice, but a kind heart. He was fearless with public speaking and voicing his opinions, but sought out those who might be overlooked by others. Joe was a great friend to everyone. He could make anyone laugh, and though she would never admit it to him, his sister, Rachel, loved to steal his jokes. He would drop everything to help someone.

Joe was born with more energy than his parents could keep up with. A memorable early Joe moment was when he decided to pull the fire alarm at the hotel pool where the family was staying for a wrestling tournament. His parents couldn't quite catch him as he darted from the pool to the alarm, and the hotel had to evacuate in the middle of the night.

Joe participated in wrestling with his brother, Will. Even though he was the little brother, he wrestled like a big brother. He loved being able to share the sport with Will and his father. He didn't care about winning or losing, just about where they were going out to eat afterwards.

In his sophomore year of high school, he started working in the nutrition services department at Bingham Memorial Hospital. He was a hard worker who was willing to take on any task. One day, despite not being trained on the deep fryer, he saw they needed a cook and immediately jumped in. His mother, father, and sister, Adrianna, all work in various departments at the hospital and loved seeing him around and occasionally getting to have lunch with him.

Joseph's father loved it when Joe would show up to his office on his break with a Diet Mountain Dew so that they could have a chat.

Joe would sometimes pick up the food trays in the ICU, where his sister Adrianna works. He liked to try to sneak in and out before she could yell across the room, "I love you, Joe." Despite not wanting the attention, he never failed to reply, "Love you, too, Annie."

Joe did not rush into getting his driver's license. He learned that his sisters, Emmalee and Ellie, could be bribed with the best chicken tenders in Blackfoot from the hospital café. He also loved to take his little sister, Abby, who looked up to him, to the cafeteria for lunch. Rather than getting his license to drive a car, Joe decided to go straight to motorcycles. His family was all relieved when his cousin, Michael, and Uncle Scott offered to sell him their truck.

In October of last year, he came to his big sister and asked if he could move into her spare room. She loved having him with her and is so grateful for the time they spent together.

He is survived by his parents, Bill and Tara Haight, his siblings Adrianna, Emmalee, Will, Kaitie, Ellie, Rachel, Abby, grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

An open house will be held at the Hawker Funeral Home at 132 South Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot, Idaho, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 10:00-11:15, with services to follow at 11:30.
