As a Medway student, class of 1970, Mr Hanlon was always there to greet you each morning to welcome you to another day of learning! My condolences to his wife (Ms Murphy) who was my wonderful math teacher.
I have fond memories of learning in an environment of encouragement and trust from both Joe and Ms Murphy at a time I was having many life challenges.

Though life has been at a distance, I don´t think a year has passed without thoughts of Joe Hanlon and what he did for us. He possessed an uncanny ability to always be there at those moments when I most needed an encouraging word but also at those at moments when I would be least proud of myself. It is not lost on me that only the truest friends are this relentlessly wise, attentive and supportive while equally able and willing get in your face when you are wrong. What a super-human man that he could have been thus for so many.
I offer my sincerest condolences and affection to Phyllis, their family, my classmates, and the Medway community.

Joe was the Vice Principal when I started teaching at Medway High School. He was so encouraging, knowledgeable with a profound understanding of human nature. He gave me all the help I could ask for as a beginning teacher. I thank God he was my Administratir in those early years. He was loved and respected by everyone at MHS. It's so fitting the football field is named after such a great person who gave so much to his community. My condolences to Phyllis and her entire family. We all loved Joe.

What a tremendous loss and what a tremendous legacy that you left for all of us, Coach Hanlon. I'm old enough to remember when you married "Miss Murphy", and I'm so glad that you found each other! We will always remember you, standing at the front door of MHS, greeting every student with your smiling encouragement, every single morning. Thank you for your dedication, your care and your character. Condolences to Mrs. Hanlon and to all family and friends.
