Joseph Harbin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory on Dec. 9, 2024.
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Joseph Ray Harbin. Others may refer to him as "Eagle Vet", "Joe Spiffy", "The Can Man", "Visor Man", "JoJo", and "Pop". He left this world on December 8, 2024, at the age of 63 with family by his side. Born on July 4, 1961, in McRae, Georgia, Joe was the beloved husband, father, and pop, whose warmth and kindness enriched all who knew him. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Centerville, immediately followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 PM. Joe will be laid to rest at Parkway Memorial Gardens, where his memory will be a comfort to all who visit.
As we gather to celebrate Joe's life, let us remember his humor, curiosity, and unwavering loyalty, which continue to inspire us. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed, yet his legacy of love and kindness remains forever in our hearts.
Joe was known as a local social media celebrity, where he shared his daily walks, nightly meals, grilling recipes, retirement home adventures, and his love of high school and college football. He cultivated a life filled with love, devotion, and genuine interest in those around him. His vibrant personality left a lasting impression on his family, friends, and community, creating bonds that will endure long after his passing. Joe devoted many years to civil service at Robins Air Force Base, where his impeccable work ethic and dedication were admired by all who had the privilege of working alongside him. Through his career, Joe demonstrated not only professional skill but also a profound commitment to serving others, embodying the virtues of loyalty and reliability.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Gerald Roy Harbin and Myrtle Evelyn Ray Harbin, and his brother-in-law, Rocky Griffeth.
Joe is survived by his cherished wife of 43 years, Patricia Smith Harbin, whose partnership enriched every day of his life. He also leaves behind his beloved daughter, Brittany (Justin) Milam, and a grandson, Grayson Milam, both of whom were the pride of his life. Additionally, Joe is fondly remembered by his siblings: Terry (Wanda) Harbin, Pat Griffeth, Jane (John) Cuppett, and Robin (Kevin) Coy, who stood by him throughout his journey.

Pat, Brittany and family, you have my condolences and prayers. My greatest memories of Jo was growing up in First Baptist Church Centerville while his dad was our part time minister of music.

Joe was a fellow Northside and UGA football fan, he loved football. He always had a unique view on football and politics. I always looked forward to his facebook post about his discoveries on his dailey walks.

He will be missed.

Joe was my neighbor and sometimes snake-chaser. I enjoyed hearing his snake stories and also the various things he would see on his walks. I was excited when he invited me to see the Hostas he and Patricia were growing and he was always updating me on the new development going in behind our houses. It was so nice to know he was just 2 doors down and that he was always willing to help in any way he could. I felt our neighborhood was a safer place because of his due diligence. Patricia we are 2 doors away any time. We are here for you like Joe was for everyone he knew. Melanie Eblen
