Joseph Delbert Harlow, 63, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on July 3, 2023. He was a loving father, grandfather, and husband. He was determined to make everyone laugh with his sense of humor. He was a fighter, he battled cancer and survived. He lost his leg and was able to continue with life making jokes about how he was going to go to work at IHOP because "I hop".
Joe, as most knew him, was born September 24, 1959, at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California to the late Juanita (Walker) and Claude Joseph "C.J." Harlow.
Joe is survived by his wife of 34 years, Suzzette Harlow; stepmother Loretta Sue Harlow; children, Jacquelynn C Harlow (Daniel Troxell), and Joseph M Harlow (Chelsea Roby); grandchildren, Joseph Conrad Harlow, and Lucy Marie Jean Harlow; brother, Michael Harlow (Elizabeth); sister, Donna Brockway (Bill); nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. All will cherish the moments they spent with him forever.
He grew up traveling with his family as his father was a sergeant in the Marines.
They went all over the country until they finally returned to Kentucky to enjoy the little things in life, such as family and friends.
He worked for Shoney's on and off for about 28 years. He did everything from bussing tables to running the building as a general manager. He worked around 4 years at Chili's, 5 years at Logan's, and the past close to 6 years at Walmart in Hillview. At each of these places, he made friends and laughed and joked with them consistently in the hopes that each of them had a better day.
He loved playing golf with his father. I'm sure he is back to playing golf with him now, cracking jokes and giving people a hard time. Many of my and my brother's friends wished they had parents like ours. Our father was one of a kind. He'd have intelligent conversations for hours with our friends. He celebrated the birthdays and weddings of so many of our friends.
He cherished the moments when he watched us all turn into amazing young men and women. He was proud of us, even the children that were not his blood. As I his daughter writing this I ask instead of sending us flowers, donate to cancer or heart research, as he has suffered from both the past few years.
His funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Owen Funeral Home.

I met Joe one of my first days on Front End and he actually trained me some on u-scans. He told me his story and how all he wanted to do was make people smile, and how this job was his "destressor" He could always put a smile on your face whether it be jokes or having playful banter with team leads and management. It won't ever be the same without him but his memory will live on through each and every person he interacted with. I wish the family love and happiness and just know he was one great man.
