Joseph "Joe" Harvin died March 21, 2022 at Imperial Healthcare Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Neptune, NJ 07753. He was born June 20, 1940 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, the son of the late William Harvin and Edith Richbow. Joe was raised by Elijah and Elizabeth Richbow at birth.
Joe attended and graduated from the Sumter County School district in South Carolina. In the late 1960/70's Joe moved from South Carolina to New Jersey. Joe spent most of his life in Neptune where he enjoyed working in his yard and fathering nearby neighbors who would look up to him dearly.
Joe worked as a construction laborer for the local Union 472 & 172 for 50+ years. Joe performed outside heavy highway labor, paving and blacktop. He also worked for companies such as Manzo Construction, Stavola Asphalt Company, and Precision Paving as a Foreman. Joe was a longtime member of the Joseph T. Newman Elks Lodge #998, Neptune NJ, where he served on the board as a trustee for over 20 years. In 1981 Joe met his long-time wife, Debra Saunders. Joe and Debra Harvin enjoyed 36 years of marriage together.
In addition to his parents Joe was predeceased by his son Joel Smith, brother Kenneth Crawford, Aunts Jeanella Richbow, Gladys Walker, Mammie Brown, Uncles Haywood, William and Caesar Richbow, and step great grandchild Mirikal Saunders-Cox. Surviving in addition to his wife Debra Harvin of Neptune NJ, are his daughters Katie Nash of Columbia SC, Deidra Harvin of Neptune NJ, Step Children Nakia and Raafi Saunders of Neptune NJ, Tonya and Vernice Moore. Sisters Deborah Rollerson (James) of Irving Texas, Albertha Waters (Theodore) of Connecticut, Ruby Kerson (Gilbert) and Lilian Crawford both of Yonkers NY. Brothers Lewis Crawford (Cynthia) of Mount Vernon NY, Lucius Crawford, Texas. Cousin raised from birth as a sibling Sara Singleton Yonkers, NY. Aunts Francis Dinkins and Emma Habershin of Horatio, SC. Grandchildren Katharine Nash, Kristina Nash, Paul Harvin, Anthony Blackwell, Tara Harvin, Dante Moore, Daryl Harvin, Myasia Harvin and Jolisa Harvin. Joe had 13 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
