Joseph Helmuth Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 19, 2024.
Joseph "Joe" A. Helmuth, 69, of Lake Tomahawk, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born on February 21, 1955, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, to the late George and Marion (Gilbert) Helmuth. He married the love of his life, Karlene Whitney, on June 3, 1978, at the United Church of Christ in Nekoosa, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter.
A graduate of Lincoln High School in 1973, Joe completed his Electrical Apprenticeship through IBEW Local 388. He dedicated his career to the craft, working as an Electrical Journeyman with Consolidated Papers in the Kraft Division and later serving as President and Business Manager of IBEW Local 1147 until his retirement on August 1, 2017.
Joe's passion for building and fixing things extended beyond his profession; he was a true craftsman who enjoyed working on projects with friends and family. He created a loving home on 64th Street, where he raised his three sons, Kelsey (Amy), Evan, and Taylor (Megan), before relocating to the serene shores of Horsehead Lake in Lake Tomahawk.
An avid snowmobiler, Joe reveled in exploring the snowy trails of Wisconsin and the breathtaking mountains out West with friends and family. He cherished the tranquil moments spent on the lake, enjoying peaceful afternoon pontoon rides with Karlene. Joe was also an enthusiastic member of the Vintage Outlaws Classic Car Club, where he connected with fellow car enthusiasts.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Karlene, with whom he shared 46 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Lila, Mason, and Troy, who brought immense joy to his life. Additionally, he leaves behind his three siblings: Jim (Sue) Helmuth, Mary Leach, and Gladys (Jerry) Vacha. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Shirley, Roy, Bill, Eileen, and Evelynn.
Joe's warmth, kindness, and infectious spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to call him family and friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe's name to the family, who will distribute the contributions to various organizations that were close to his heart.

Joe was a calm leader & appeared to enjoy his role as president of the electrical union. I also saw him at many a game cheering on his grandson at the ball field! My condolences to the entire family.
