Joseph L. Hess, age 73, of Hancock, MD, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Doey’s House, Hagerstown, MD.
Born Sunday, March 23, 1952, in Berkeley Springs, WV, he was the son of the late William (Bubber) and Maud Brannon Hess.
Joseph was a graduate of Hancock High School Class of 1970. He worked in construction and worked for Fairchild of Hagerstown, MD.
He enjoyed watching boxing and nature. He also enjoyed feeding deer.
Joseph was a member of the boxing club known as “The Has Beens” of Cumberland, MD. He was also a member of Orchard Ridge First Church of God.
He is survived by his wife Teresa True Hess of Hancock, MD; one daughter, Catherine “Caty” Hess of Hancock, MD; two brothers, Bruce Hess of Norfolk, VA, and Sam Hess of Berkeley Springs, WV; two sisters, Emeline Golden of Ohio, and Margaret Kump of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by seven brothers, Bill, Frank, Bob, Kenny, Dick, David, and Mike Hess; and one sister, Debra Ray.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s name can be made to Doey’s House, 11370 Caring Pathway Ln, Hagerstown, MD 21742 and/or Orchard Ridge First Church of God, 14128 Orchard Ridge Rd, Hancock, MD 21750.
