Ava Yevette Hess

Ava Yevette Hess, age 58, of Abingdon, Virginia, formerly of Grundy, Virginia, received her ultimate healing and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on August 24, 2025.

Ava was born on May 6, 1967 to Robert and Nellie McNutt. She was a 1985 graduate of Grundy Senior High School and went on to study cosmetology at East Kentucky Beauty College. Using her talents and gifts, she later owned and operated several salons throughout Southwest Virginia and blessed many with her skill, kindness, and joy.

Ava was a woman who walked daily in her faith and trusted God in every season of her life. She loved the Lord with her whole heart and lived as a testimony of His goodness and mercy. Her children and grandchildren were her pride, joy, and greatest blessing. To all who knew her, she served as a mentor and encourager, lifting others up with her words, prayers, and unwavering belief in God's promises. She touched countless lives by the way she loved, served, and prayed for others. Her favorite scripture, Psalm 91 (KJV), was the foundation of her strength and the guiding light of her journey.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert McNutt.

She is survived by her children, Tomarah Murray and husband JP, Aaron Hess and fiancée Brittany, Tiarah Broyles and husband Bailey; mother, Nellie McNutt; grandchildren, Haylee, Parker, Ethan, and with another grandson soon to arrive; siblings, Wanda Taylor and husband Walter, Eunice Sesco and husband Rudolph, Henry McNutt and wife Sherry; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Ava's life was a living example of faith, love, and devotion to Christ. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now completely healed, rejoicing forever in the arms of Jesus. To God be the glory for the life she lived and the eternal home she has gained.

Visitation hours will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Grace Tabernacle Church, 21337 Battle Hill Dr in Bristol, VA. Home Going service will held at 1:00 PM with Pastor Danny Hess officiating. Graveside service will follow in Knollkerg Memorial Park in Abingdon, VA.

Pallbearers will be Shawn McNutt, Ethan Hess, Parker Murray, JP Murray, Shane Sesco, and Bailey Broyles.
