Joseph "Joe" William Knabel, Sr., age 73, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Joe was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and Grandfather, whose love for his family knew no bounds. He had a deep passion for woodworking and was a skilled carpenter, capable of creating and repairing anything with his hands.
In addition to his craftsmanship, Joe had a lifelong love of baseball, serving proudly as an umpire for a community baseball team. For over thirty years, he dedicated his time and talents to Jefferson County Public Schools as a plant operator, where he made a lasting impact.
Joe was born on September 27, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Martin and Mary (Zimmerman) Knabel. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin William Knabel; mother, Mary C. Knabel; wife, Diane Knabel; son, Derrick Knabel; and brother-in-law, George Davis.
He is survived by his loving family, including his son, Joseph W. Knabel, Jr.; daughter, Dana Knabel; son, Justin (Norma) Knabel; and granddaughters, Courtney (Michael) Brennan and Sophie Knabel. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Davis, as well as many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Highway. A funeral service will take place on Monday at 12:00 p.m., also at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
