Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cartmell-Davis Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. - Manomet on Nov. 4, 2025.
Joseph G. Joyce of
Plymouth, MA passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his three children and his loving girlfriend on October 25, 2025, after a brief illness. Joe will always be remembered as a loving father and a great friend to those who were close to him.
Joe was born on July 21, 1954 to Thomas F. and Rose Duffy Joyce in South Boston. The youngest of nine siblings, he lived his early years in the city before moving with his family to their summer home in Manomet where he would come to spend the rest of his days.
After graduating from Plymouth-Carver High School in 1973, Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corps; he was a proud American who loved his country. Upon his discharge, he returned to his beloved Manomet where he worked as a carpenter for many years, honing his skills as a builder and craftsman. He would later use these skills to transform his small cottage into a full size house more suitable for raising a family.
In 1980 Joe began working for the MBTA at various garages in Metro Boston; it was a daily grind keeping the city's buses running smoothly so the rest of the world could get to work on time, but he didn't mind getting his hands dirty. After 24 long years as a machinist in the city, Joe finally retired to a simpler life. He enjoyed retirement, but of course he needed to stay busy in his later years, so he picked up jobs at Churchills, Howland Disposal, and finally White Cliffs Golf Course.
He was a man who loved to make us all laugh; he was always quick to light up a room with a joke or a silly gag. He maintained close ties with his friends from his youth, the "Fresh Pond gang" among many others. In their younger days they could be found spending summers boating and waterskiing on the pond, hanging out, seeing what kind of trouble they could get into. Truly lifelong friends, in their later years they would still meet up every Friday night to drink, laugh, and reminisce about the good ol' days.
Joe loved tinkering with cars, he loved the dogs he had throughout his life, Bubba and Gus, and he always enjoyed a round of golf, all passions that he passed on to his children, who he loved most of all. He also owned and rode many motorcycles in his day. Some of the fondest memories his children have of him were from their boating and fishing adventures, knee-boarding on the pond and trips to Browns Bank. Joe loved to have fun and he always made sure his kids knew how to have fun too!
Later in life, Joe enjoyed spending 15 lovely years with his girlfriend Trisha; he always loved having her grandchildren come by the house and spending time with them as well. Always needing a car to work on, he had two project Jeeps decorating his yard that he would fix up whenever he wasn't busy napping in his favorite recliner.
Joe is survived by his partner of many years, Trisha O'Connor Gallivan of Plymouth. He leaves behind his children, Jesse, James, and Monica with heavy hearts and fond memories. Joe also leaves his sister Eileen of Bourne and brother Francis of South Boston. He was predeceased by his brothers John, Edward, Thomas, William, and Richard, and his sister Maureen. Joe leaves many nieces and nephews, including Patti and Susie Joyce, who he was so grateful to see so much of towards the end.
Joe was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 15th from 3pm to 5:30pm at the Cartmell Davis Funeral Home at 619 State Rd,
