Joseph "Joe" "Joey" "Papa" "Uncle Joe" Harold Kimball Jr. CPA, of East Greenwich passed peacefully into eternal life on Monday May 13, 2024 at the age of seventy six after an eighteen year battle with metastatic kidney cancer. A true family man, Joe was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Harold and Ireene (Raspa) Kimball. He is survived by his college sweetheart and devoted wife of fifty two years Nancy (Walsh) Kimball, son David Kimball of Trumbull, Connecticut, daughter Jennifer King DVM and husband Cory of Bethel, Connecticut, grandchildren Jack and Max Kimball, Zoe and Logan King, brother James Kimball of Abington, Massachusetts and sister Mary Kimball of South Easton, Massachusetts. Joe was born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts where he spent his childhood days playing basketball in the driveway with his friends, drinking lime rickeys at Franzens Pharmacy, participating in the activities of the local Boy Scout troop, playing the trumpet in the school band and showing off his Barracuda jacket. His career as a businessman started at an early age while mowing lawns in the neighborhood to earn tuition money to attend Cardinal Spellman High School where he wore #14 for the basketball team. His love of golf began when he became a caddy at Thorny Lea Golf Club. Joe attended Stonehill College where he met the love of his life Nancy and made numerous lifelong friends as a member of the basketball team. Membership in the Purple Key Society, a college service organization became the beginning of a life devoted to serving others in his community. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting in 1970 he began his career as a staff accountant with KPMG LLP (formerly Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co.). Joe spent over ten years in their Boston and Providence offices. He and Nancy were married in 1971 and they settled in Rhode Island. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1975 and earned a Master of Science in Taxation from Bentley College in 1979. He joined Sansiveri, Ryan & amp Co. in Providence in 1980 and retired in 2013 as Senior Tax Partner of the firm which had been renamed Sansiveri, Kimball & amp Co. LLP. Joe loved his work because of the meaningful and long-lasting relationships he developed with his clients and co-workers many of whom became close friends. He was a member of multiple professional organizations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was the past Chair of the Tax Committee of Allinial Global (formerly Polaris International) a global association of independent accounting firms. Joe served on the graduate school faculty at Bryant College and had lectured at numerous seminars over the course of his career. Joe lived a life of service to the Lord and he used his professional knowledge to serve charitable causes such as the Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Mary's on Broadway, the Providence Children's Museum, the Narragansett Bay Commission, the Stonehill Alumni Council, The East Greenwich Lions Club and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Joe loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and took great pleasure over the years in attending school concerts and sporting events, coaching youth soccer for the East Greenwich Soccer Association, playing golf during their annual family vacation to Cape Cod, enjoying an Awful Awful, Del's Lemonade or three all-the-way at Olneyville NY System, playing basketball or having a catch in the backyard. Joe took pride (and maybe also uttered a few naughty words) in maintaining his backyard pool and loved to share it with family, friends and neighbors. He was proud of his Italian heritage and looked forward to enjoying a zeppole on his namesake holiday of St. Joseph's Day each year. Please join us in remembering and honoring Joe as we don our best tassel loafers and pour ourselves a stiff bourbon Manhattan with extra maraschino cherries to toast a man who knew no boundaries when it came to showering his family and friends with love and sharing the many gifts and talents that God bestowed him. Joe would encourage us all to take care of ourselves and stay in touch, but most importantly, "Say your prayers, get some rest and give it Hell". Joe took on his fight against cancer under the watchful care of Dr. Toni Choueiri and the amazing team at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We are forever grateful for the state of the art and loving care they provided along with the emotional support for our family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday May 17, 2024 at 11:00am in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church 360 Cowesett Road Warwick. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Joe's memory to Dr. Choueiri's Pan-Mass Challenge Team: teammorecowbell.com/
