Joseph Labutka Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Yurs Funeral Home of Geneva on Feb. 22, 2026.
Joseph S. Labutka, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026
surrounded by his loving family who meant everything to him. He was
greatly loved by his spouse, children, grandchildren and their families.
The son of Julia and Steve Labutka, brother of Mary Ann (Brown) and
Caroline (Robert) Emeigh, Joe was born on March 12 in Ford City,
Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Penn State University. After graduation
Joe entered the military and was stationed in Georgia.
Joseph moved to Chicago in 1969 to accept an auditor position with Amsted
Industries where he met his wife and life-time partner, Carolyn. He moved to
the tri-city area and raised his two children in the St. Charles community. For
over 35 years, Joe worked in the financial services area until retirement, at
which time he worked for the United States Post Office.
Joe lived a life centered around connection, laughter, and the simple
pleasures that brought people together. He had a lifelong love of sports and
could always be counted on to catch a game, share his thoughts on a big play,
or cheer passionately for his favorite teams. Watching sports with Joe was
never just about the game - it was about the camaraderie, the stories, and
the joy of being together.
He also found great happiness on the golf course. Whether he was chasing a
great shot or just enjoying a round with friends, golfing gave him another
excuse to spend time outdoors and in good company.
Joe had a deep appreciation for music. Later in life, he joined the Elgin
Choral Union. He loved to sing, and music brought him a special kind of joy
– one that reflected his warm and open spirit.
His love of gardening showed another side of him. Joe took pride in tending
his plants, patiently nurturing them season after season. His garden was a
place of calm, care, and quiet accomplishment - much like the steady
presence he was in the lives of those around him.
He genuinely loved being surrounded by people. Joe never passed up the
chance to sit back with a drink in hand, share a story, and enjoy the company
of family and friends. Those moments - simple, warm, and full of laughter
- were where he was happiest.

Above all, Joe cherished his family. He showed his love by showing up - to
games, gatherings, celebrations, and ordinary afternoons that became special
simply because he was there. His presence brought comfort, humor, and a
sense of togetherness that will be deeply missed.
Joe will be remembered for his kindness, his spirit, and his ability to make
everyone feel welcome. His legacy lives on in the traditions he created, the
friendships he treasured, and the countless memories shared.
Survivors include: spouse Carolyn, daughter Kimberly (Tim) Martin, son
Nathan (Erika); four grandchildren – Adam (Mindi) Martin, Ryan (Kathy)
Martin, Benjamin Labutka, Gillian Labutka; four great-grandchildren;
Berrien Martin, Truli Martin, Elouise Martin, Evelyn Martin, and dear nieces
and nephews.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
