Joseph Lavezza was born on February 6, 1953 to Ellis Mejia McNulty and Bernard Lavezza in Baltimore Maryland. He passed away on October 28, 2024 at the age of 71.
Joseph, or Joey as he was known, grew up in Baltimore and attended Baltimore city schools. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a young man, but completed public schools and then started in employment through the Emerge supported employment program in a janitorial job in Charles Village. Joe would continue to work until an accident left him with additional limitations. Joey's mobility was limited, but he persevered and began attending the Emerge horticultural program, which he would attend until the last years of his life.
Joey was always quiet, but like EF Hutton, when Joey spoke, people listened. He was emphatic people should be polite and would demand that people say grace at every meal. A good Catholic, he always tried to follow in the ways he was taught.
Joey's fun things in life included collecting watches, reading books, and watching old TV shows, especially the old Westerns and The Price is Right.
Joey's family preceded him in death. He is loved and remembered by his many friends and colleagues at Emerge Inc.
