Bernard Lavezza Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 3, 2026.
Bernard Michael "Bernie" Lavezza, 73, passed away on January 22, 2026, in Martinez,
California. A man of intellect, warmth, and curiosity, Bernie lived a life enriched by service,
exploration, and enduring relationships.
Born on March 4, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland, Bernie was a proud graduate of Archbishop
Curley High School. His pursuit of knowledge continued through college, reflecting his deep
appreciation for education and learning. Throughout his life, he remained an inquisitive and
thoughtful individual who valued both formal education and the lessons gained through
experience.
Bernie served honorably in the United States Air Force for three years, six months, and
twenty-eight days. During his time as a sergeant stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi, and in Vietnam,
he demonstrated dedication to duty and a strong sense of responsibility-qualities that would
define him throughout his life.
A faithful Catholic, Bernie's spiritual life was a guiding force. His faith gave him strength and
purpose, and it was reflected in the way he treated others-with kindness and respect.
Bernie had a passion for discovery that led him to travel the world. Whether exploring new
cultures or navigating winding roads on his motorcycle, he embraced every journey with
enthusiasm. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: tuning into Ham Radio frequencies to
connect with voices near and far; listening to the timeless rhythms of 1950s and 1960s music; or
quietly working through a jigsaw puzzle with patience and focus.
Those who knew Bernie appreciated his friendly nature and sharp mind. He had an easy way of
making connections-whether through shared interests or genuine conversation-and left
lasting impressions wherever he went.
He is lovingly remembered by his younger brother Charles Lavezza; his foster sister Rebecca
Bents Kraft; and his devoted spouse of fourteen years, Julie Doolin. Their lives were deeply
enriched by Bernie's presence, humor, and unwavering support.
May Bernard Michael "Bernie" Lavezza's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and
continue to inspire all who cherish the values he lived by-curiosity, kindness, service, and love.
A Memorial Service will be held on February 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St James' Episcopal
Church, 19200 York Rd, Parkton, MD 21120
