Joseph Richard Lewis Sr., born on August 12, 1945, in Rotan, Texas, passed away on December 25, 2025, in Belton, Texas. He led a life dedicated to education and the arts, leaving a lasting impact on countless students throughout his career. Joseph served as a band director at multiple schools, including Trinity ISD, Columbus ISD, and Moody ISD. His passion for music touched the lives of many and inspired a generation of young musicians.
In addition to his remarkable career in education, Joseph proudly served four years in the Air Force, showcasing his commitment to his country. His service and dedication extended beyond the military, as he continued to dedicate his life to nurturing the talents of others, particularly through music.
Joseph had a profound love for teaching, but even more so, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren, Victoria and Sara. He was often seen attending band performances, softball games, and theatre productions, displaying both pride and joy in their accomplishments. His active engagement in their lives demonstrated the values of support and encouragement that he imparted throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sara Lewis; his son, Joseph Richard Lewis Jr.; and his granddaughters, Victoria and Sara Lewis. He is preceded in death by his father, John Lewis, his mother, Beryl Lewis, and his daughter-in-law, Beth Lewis.
Joseph Richard Lewis Sr.’s legacy will be celebrated during a memorial service on January 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church located at 881 N Main St, Salado, Texas, 76571.
The memory of Joseph will live on in the hearts of those he touched through his passion for music, his nurturing spirit, and his unwavering support of his family.
