Clyde Louth, age 93, died peacefully on August 4, 2024 at Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, DE.
Clyde was born on February 4, 1931 in Wilmington, DE to his parents Dorothy and Clyde Louth. Despite a humble and sometimes tumultuous upbringing, Clyde received a wonderful education. He credited his time at St. Peter's, St. Paul's, St. Patrick's, and most importantly, Salesianum with having had an enormous effect on his life. He was a spectacular athlete at Salesianum, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012. He was very grateful for his years at Sallies and always tried to give back.
Following graduation in 1949, Clyde joined the US Navy. He attended Great Lakes Boot Camp and Radar School in Norfolk, VA, preparing him for nearly 4 years on the USS Salem. His time cruising the Mediterranean inspired a lifelong love for travel and adventure.
Clyde was a proud Blue Hen, graduating from the University of Delaware in 1957. He was an accomplished athlete at UD, and was captain of three sports (cross country, track, and basketball). He was inducted into the Delaware Legends Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011 and UD Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
Clyde taught math for 26 years at both Jennie Smith Elementary and Ogletown (Kirk) Middle School. While teaching, he worked part time providing financial advisor services to his fellow teachers. Despite his retirement from the district in 1983, he continued his career as a financial advisor for another 3 decades. Working primarily for Kades-Margolis, he took care of hundreds of financial clients, many of whom were teachers.
Above all else, Clyde loved his family. He and his wife Lois shared nearly 55 wonderful years together prior to her passing in 2011. Clyde and Lois are survived by their four beloved children, Michael (Elsie), Karen, Robin, and Susan; five grandchildren, Sarah (Jason), John, Stephen, Mary Kate (Tommy), and Michael; and 2 great grandchildren, Warren and Chloe (plus 2 more on the way). Clyde treasured the time spent traveling with his family, especially visiting Bermuda, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and more with his children and grandchildren, as well as many trips with close friends. Clyde also loved swimming, playing blackjack, the Phillies, whiskey sours, St. Patrick's Day, and his many friends. To Clyde, no one was a stranger.
"It may be a little late, but I would like to thank any of my friends or anyone who helped me over difficult times in my early life" -Clyde
Friends and family are invited to visit on Monday, August 12 from 4-7 p.m. at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., on Tuesday, August 13 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salesianum School, Attn: Advancement, 1801 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE, 19802, in memory of J. Clyde Louth.

Clyde & I were (2) of the few original Kades-Margolis financial representatives who shared over 30 years of good times & memories together..... He was usually the "life" of most gatherings both large & small while being a magnet for others with his charm, wit, & personality .....
Both Nancy & I wish to express our condolences & most sincere sympathies to the LOUTH FAMILY , and may you REST IN PEACE ... MY FRIEND

I was a regional sales Director with Security benefit teachers Annuity. I first met Clyde and Lois at the national sales conference In Marco Island, Florida. He just came aboard with Kades-Margolis corporation selling retirement plans to school employees.

I was amazed at his kindness, soft tone, voice, and knowledge of the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team from there we became the closest of friends for 20 odd years.

Clyde was a super guy and made you feel important every time you talk to him. You will be miss uncle Clyde.

Your good friend Daniel, J. McNichol

My most favorite memory of "Mr.Louth" was when Robin and I would talk on the phone which meant back in that day, he couldn´t get returned phone call from his clients, he would finally get Robin to hang up...Then 15 mins later, I was knocking in the door- he opens it up and say something like "...what more do you two have to talk about... she´s upstairs"!!! Ha Ha Ha
He was a great happy go lucky kind a guy who lived life to the fullest! A great role model to all of us! God Bless Joseph Clyde Louth (Mr.Louth to me).
Blessings to Michael, Karen, Robin and Susan! My condolences!
Love Sandy
