Joseph Luzzi Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center on Jan. 1, 2026.
Joseph Francis Luzzi Jr., 83, of Avon, a beloved husband, devoted father, avid outdoorsman, and proud veteran passed away Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Hartford to the late Joseph and Nancy (née Malentacchi) Luzzi, he was raised in West Hartford and graduated from Conard High School in 1960. Joe earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Norwich University as a Cadet in 1964 and enlisted in the US Army. He was deployed to Vietnam, where he proudly served for 13 months as a 1st Lieutenant in the 557th Combat Engineers Company, attached to Military Assistance Command Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, Joe joined his father in their family construction company, JF Luzzi & Sons. This experience marked the beginning of a broad career as a Professional Engineer, a designation of which he was immensely proud. Joe loved hunting and fishing, especially in Vermont with family, friends, and a dog by his side. He was honored to be a part of the Luzzi Brothers Scholarship in Engineering at Norwich University, which still offers the scholarship today. Joe was a proud member of VFW Post #3272 in Avon.
Besides his wife, Lynn, he leaves behind: his sister, Angela Meserve of Scarborough, Maine; three daughters, Dawn Driggs and Kristin Luzzi, both of Avon, and Paige Dominov and her husband, Paul, of Farmington; his grandchildren, Hannah and Carly Carpino, Grace and Molly Dominov, Jack and Thomas Driggs; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, John, Peter, and James Luzzi.
Joe's family will receive friends, Sunday January 18, 2026, from 2-4 PM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. There will be an informal time for sharing memories including a Tribute by the Officers and Members of VFW Post # 3272 at 3:30 PM followed by a Blessing by Pastor Ali Hager. Joe will be laid to rest with full military honors at the CT State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut, in May at the convenience of the family. Donations in Joe's memory and because of his long support for Veterans and their families, may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY10306, or [email protected].
