Joseph F. Maio, age 82, born in Chicago, Illinois and resided in Massillon, Ohio, passed away after a 6-year battle with colon cancer on Friday, May 9, 2025. He wrapped His arms around him, and He whispered, "Come to Me." Joseph is now reunited with his beloved wife Phyllis and home with his Creator.
He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis; two infant children, baby Phyllis and baby Joseph; sister, Patricia Evenson; his parents, Frank and Martha Maio, Sr.; father in-law and mother-in-law, Owen and Ida Woods; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Colleen (George) Panos; and brother-in-law Dennis Woods.
Surviving him are his loving children, Gwen (Michael) Johnson of San Jose, California, Cassandra (Brian) Stroka of Land O' Lakes, Florida and Dennis (Kimberly) Maio of Massillon; his eight precious grandchildren, Lauren, Nicholas, Angela, Ashley and Joshua Maio; Sydney, Emersyn and Kamryn Stroka; and his precious great-grandson, Finn Ziegler. He is also survived by his sister, Deborah (Charles) Feinstein; his brother, Frank J. Maio, Jr.; his siblings-in-law, Chuck Evenson, Ida (late Donald)Thompson, Donna (Jay) Hubbard, Owen (Shirley) Woods; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Parish where A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday May 22, 2025 at 11am. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the Mass from 10am to 11am. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to The Salvation Army. You are invited to visit www.reedfuneralhome.com to share condolences and fond memories.
