Joseph Marciniszyn Obituary

STOW -- Dr. Joseph "Joe" Peter Marciniszyn, age 79, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021. Joe was born to Joseph Peter Marciniszyn and Helen Mary Marciniszyn (nee Majdzinski) in Chester, PA, on September 4, 1941. Joe graduated from St. James High School for Boys in 1959, and received his BS in Biology from Georgetown University in 1963. While earning his MS in Organic Chemistry from American University in 1968, Joe worked with NASA doing some early research into lithium batteries. Joe was awarded with his PhD on Canine Pepsinogen from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI in 1972. He continued his quest for knowledge after his PhD by spending 5 years in Oklahoma City, OK, doing his Post-Doctoral with the esteemed Dr. Jordan Tang on proteases at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Joe's work in support of Dr. Tang's research led to advances in treatments for stomach cancer, hypertension, AIDS and Alzheimer's. After his Post-Doc work, Joe went on to do a fellowship with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Raleigh, NC, after which he and his family moved to Cleveland Heights, OH in 1980 to work for Diamond Shamrock/Ricerca Biosciences in Painesville, OH, and then founded North Coast RegSci in Stow, OH before finally retiring in 2009. While at American University, Joe met Meredith "Ditty" Barrow (now Jane Barrow) and they married in 1967. In 1969 their first child Peter W. Marciniszyn was brought into the world then in 1974 their family grew to four when Dr. Sara L. Worden (nee Marciniszyn) was born. Joe separated from Ditty in 2002, and later found love again when he met Carol Marciniszyn (nee Edmonson) and they wed on May 7, 2005. In his spare time, Joe was an avid fisherman, crossword puzzle aficionado and voracious reader. He also had a deep love for dogs and was often called an avid Pug collector in his later years. He loved to enjoy a glass of fine French wine while spending hours cooking and dining with those he loved. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Marciniszyn and is survived by his wife, Carol; sister, Helen Shields (nee Marciniszyn) and her husband, Richard Shields; his two children, Peter Marciniszyn and Dr. Sara Worden and her husband, Michael Worden. No service will be held, but thoughts and wishes can be sent to his family through the Redmon Funeral Home Tribute Wall, through www.legacy.com or by mail to 3825 Strack Road, Columbus, OH 43207. Donations can be made in his name to the Ohio Pug Rescue (www.ohiopugrescue.com). (REDMON, STOW, 330-688-6631)
