Joseph James McFadden, age 77, husband of Lois A. (Miller) McFadden of Harleysville, PA, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 in the Abington Lansdale Hospital. Born on November 28, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Patrick and Rita Elizabeth Doohan McFadden.
Joe was a graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia. He honorably served in Vietnam in the US Army, 1st Infantry Division, The Big Red One, from 1966 to 1968. He owned and operated the Old Reliable Towing Company in Philadelphia for many years until his retirement. His brother Bernie and Franny worked with him for many years. Joe was also a beloved bartender, working at Crane's Tavern in Ambler, Easy Street Pub in Ambler, and various establishments (McMenamin's in Chesnut Hill and The Wooden Nickel in Roxborough to name a few) in Philadelphia over the years.
Mr. McFadden enjoyed cooking, golfing, watching attending EAGLES games, having been a season ticket holder of the Philadelphia Eagles for over 50 years. His greatest pride and joy was his family, his daughter Krissy and his grandchildren, Vee and Joe. He showed Joe around the kitchen starting at a young age. He spent hours watching movies with Vee. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Joe had a heart of gold. He was very well known and loved by many.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McFadden is survived by one daughter, Kristen "Krissy" McFadden (partner Vaughn Belfield); two grandchildren, Veronique McFadden (partner Oliver Fredericks) and Joseph Armour, named after his grandfather; two siblings, Bernard, husband of Vaughnina McFadden and Karen, wife of the late Michael Montgomery; brother-in-law, Ronny Smith; and so many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six siblings, Bernadette McFadden, Rita Jean, wife of the late Joe Warren, Helen "Nellie" Smith, Anne Donofry, Francis McFadden, and his twin brother James Joseph McFadden.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 3640 Schuylkill Road, Spring City, PA 19475 on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 11:00am. Officiating will be Ftr. Charles O'Hara. Friends will be received from 9:15am - 10:45am in the Church on Wednesday morning.
All are invited to attend his military burial, honoring Joe's wishes, to be held in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940 on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 11:00am. Please arrive by 10:45am.
