Joe was my colleague, my mentor, my friend and the man who taught me everything I needed to know about earth science. His enthusiasm for his subject was infectious. Dedicated 100% to his students, he was an inspiration. I was lucky to have had the honor of working with him and sharing his love of teaching. He will be missed by so many and most of all, by me.
