Joseph J. Netta Jr., 70, peacefully passed away from cancer on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
Joe was born to the late Joseph and Catherine (Kenney) Netta; grew up in Vilone Village in Elsmere and graduated from Corpus Christi High School. Joe went on to receive his bachelor of science in accounting from Goldey-Beacom College and subsequent master's degree in government contracting. He retired in 2014 after a long career with the DuPont Company.
He was a devoted husband to Kathleen (Naughton) for over 48 years, loving father to his children, and doting Gramps to his grandchildren who adored him. Joe enjoyed his time spent at home surrounded by his children and grandchildren. His interests included home projects, his garden which he took pride in, crossword puzzles, and relaxing on the porch listening to Chicago records. His Christmas light display was always a hit for the family Christmas Eve party that Joe and Kathy hosted for the extended family for 44 years.
Joe and Kathy have an amazing circle of close friends. Even more lifelong friendships were formed through his involvement with the Athletic Association at St John the Beloved Parish. His family will cherish the memories from his years helping at the carnival. Joe coached his sons' soccer and tee-ball teams. He was fortunate to have wonderful in-laws and friends to travel with.
Along with his parents, Joe was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Pat and Peggy Naughton; sister, Lorraine Scheib (Sam); brothers-in-law, Daniel Foley (Patricia) and James Morrow (Marianne); and sister-in-law, Nancy Shanahan (Gary).
Joseph is survived by his loving wife: Kathleen (Naughton); his children, Joseph Netta (Jessica), Alison Thomas (William) and Matthew Netta (Ashlin); grandchildren: Nicholas, McKenna, Lucy, Salvatore and Ace; siblings, Joyce, Lawrence (Sherry), Michael (Jen) and Marianne Morrow; In-laws, Ann (Roger), Patricia, Jim (Tracy), Tom, and Michael (Lisa) Naughton; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society either online or by calling 800-227-2345 or direct mail to P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123 in Joe's honor.
