Joseph George Novak, passed away at the age of 83, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. Joe was born on February 22, 1941, the son of the late Joseph A. and Frances (nee Sadilek) Novak. Born in Chicago, he grew up in Cicero and was a graduate of J. Sterling Morton High School, during which time he enjoyed playing in his small band for weddings and parties. Joe enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country. A majority of his career, Joe enjoyed the craftsmanship of welding. He retired in 2005 from Cold Storage, where he enjoyed working as a Security Guard. For many years, he proudly worked part time as a Police Officer for the City of Berwyn and was a former member of the West Suburban Concert Band
Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends during cookouts or while playing cards. He was an incredible husband, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a devoted friend. There will forever be a void in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of loving him.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara V. (nee Bezdek) Novak; his daughter, Susan J. (Richard) Brown; son, Joseph F. (Cherie) Novak; grandchildren, Justine Novak, Richard Brown, and Joey Novak; great-grandson, Carter Cruz; and two brothers, Gerald (Maria) Novak, and James (Wanda) Novak. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services for Joseph George Novak will be held at 10:45 a.m., on Friday, August 9, 2024, from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet, IL, to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Ave., Joliet, IL, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Paralyzed Veterans of America.
