Joseph Paul Pekol, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born May 29, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre Township, he was the son of the late Joseph Nicholas and Anne Kuren Pekol.
Joseph was a 1948 graduate of Marymount High School, Wilkes-Barre, and a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950 to 1954.
Joe was employed at LCC Construction, Luzerne, for over 20 years; Faith Shoe, Hanover Township, for 10 years; and in Housekeeping at Little Flower Manor Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre, for 10 years.
He was a member of Our lady of Hope Parish, Wilkes-Barre.
Rosie was a past Commander and Adjutant for over 40 years at the American Legion Post #815, Wilkes-Barre Township; a Charter member of the Warsaw Sportsman's Club for 65 years; and was a founding member of the Georgetown Conservation Club.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Lorraine Pekol in 2005; brothers, Frank, Thomas, Leonard, and Carl Pekol; and sister, Marion Yanovich.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, the former Marie Smith; sons, Joseph P. Pekol of Bear Creek, and Carl A. Pekol and his wife, Jane of Wilkes-Barre Township; grandchildren, Megan Evans and her husband, Mike of Stafford, VA, Joseph Robert Pekol of Northfield, VT, Larissa Ann Pekol and her husband, Dave Woydka of Bethlehem, PA, Kristin Himlin and her husband, Matt of Forty Fort, PA, and Heather Ann Delacruz and her husband, Hector of Exeter, PA; great grandchildren, Brynn, Liam, and James Evans, and Javier and Jayla Rey Delacruz; sisters, Theresa Britt of Hanover Township, and Dorothy Griffith and her husband, Galen of Middletown, DE; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10:00am at Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702. The Reverend John S. Terry, Pastor Emeriti, will be Celebrant. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Friday morning at the church from 9:00am until the time of Mass.
