Joseph "Joey" Bruce Rainer, age 65, a lifetime resident of Colville, WA passed away on December 7, 2024 in Spokane, WA. Joey was born on February 3, 1959 in Spokane, WA and was welcomed and adopted into the home of Otto Henry and Geraldine Louise (Amblie) Rainer.
He was raised in Colville where he attended school and graduated in 1977 with honors as a twelve-year senior. Joey was raised on the jobsite, where both his mom and dad worked together building homes. Joey graduated ahead of schedule and jumped directly into his own construction business. He completed his first home by the time he was 18 years old and continued working independently for the next couple of years. He then began working with Dick Stewart and Sunset Construction. Joey worked for Sunset Construction until his recent and rapid decline in health due to cancer. Joey had built, remodeled and repaired everything from homes to shops and sidewalks to septic systems. He worked in Colville, Chewelah, Kettle Falls, Northport, Addy, Arden, and on nearly every rural development in between. In 1990, Joey married Karen Buell and raised three beautiful daughters, Desiree, Courtney and Kacie. Joey was a fantastic dad. He poured every ounce of love he had over his girls. He stood strong everyday as their foundation and walked alongside of each one through thick and thin. He made sure they had breakfast in their bellies and Sunday dinners to reunite the family during the week.
Joey worked long days but never missed a school game, home or away, that his girls played. He also took time to help friends and family with projects and when extra help was needed, Joey showed up, no request needed. He liked to cook and brought his family together around fantastic family meals. Joey's tough and gruff exterior covered a man who loved to listen and respond to needs of the heart, head or home. He could make any conversation comfortable and relatable no matter the company. Joey never missed a chance to share his opinion and often with his full Joey gusto. He loved the outdoors and being on the water. Joey spent many summer evenings on the lake skiing and relaxing. Once the golf course opened for the season, Joey was a regular fixture on the links and supportive member of the Elks Lodge. He never passed up an opportunity to go ocean fishing off the shores of Sekiu and Westport, WA. In his early years, many high-speed laps were made on snowmobiles and go-karts and anything else Joey could get go fast. Joey loved life at full speed and was a full-tilt fan of the LA Rams, second only to his beloved daughters.
Joey was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Geraldine Rainer.
He is survived by three daughters, Desiree Hite (Shelby) of Colville, WA, Courtney Nehlich (Greg) of Rathdrum, ID, Kacie Rainer (Calvin Connall) of Colville, WA; 6 siblings, Jon Rainer (Kerrin), Greg Rainer, Jeff Rainer, Mary Avey, Leslie DeGirolomo (Jim) all of Colville, WA and Ruth Jones of Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of extended family.
The funeral service for Joseph "Joey" B. Rainer will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Graveside service and vault interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Colville, WA.
