Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather
Mr. Joseph M. Renna, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday November 7, 2024 at Midstate Hospital. He was the loving husband of Joyce (Chillemi) Renna.
Born in Waterbury on June 30, 1933, Joe was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Jannetty) Renna. He graduated from St. Thomas Seminary and began his career as a certified X-Ray Technician and later, used this skill when he was assigned to the MASH unit in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Joe's proudest accomplishment was starting his successful wholesale business, Janner Sales, which he owned for 25 years. After selling the business, Joe began a 10-year career as a real estate agent.
Devout in his faith, Joe was a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony's Church in Prospect, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD. After moving to Watertown, Joe became a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church.
Joe was a longtime member of the B.P.O Elks #967 in Naugatuck and enjoyed going to the YMCA daily, where he had many friends. Joe was an avid reader and a great writer. His favorite pastime was baking bread, rolls, and scones which were all enjoyed by family and friends. The highlight of his days were the many happy moments and time he spent with his beloved best friend, his granddog Gilly.
In addition to Joyce, his devoted wife of 67 years, Joe is survived by his children Denis Renna and his wife Kathy of E. Falmouth, MA, Robert Renna and his wife Kadie of Morris, Susan Field of Canton and Karen Renna of Watertown; his beloved grandchildren Amy Renna and her husband Tommy Moran, Laurie Renna and her husband JJ Tad-y, Michael Renna, Brendon Field, Lauren Field, and Alexandria Renna; and his great-granddaughter Renna Rose Moran. He also leaves his sisters-in-law Phyllis Carpentieri of Watertown and Rita Tiso of Woodbury as well as several nieces and nephews.
