Cherished Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother
Helen M. (Manzi) Stango, age 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in the comfort of her home. She was the loving wife of the late Marcy D. Stango.
Born in Waterbury on February 7, 1928, Helen was the daughter of the late Vincent "Jim" and Carrie (Ventresca) Manzi. A lifelong Waterbury resident, Helen was a graduate of Webster Grammar School and Wilby High School, Class of 1945. She worked as a secretary for United Chromium, Cadbury Schweppes, and MacDermid Company. Later she worked part-time at the Waterbury Companies through Jaci Carroll Staffing.
She was very active with the Waterbury Republican Party from 1975 to 1987. She served as the Vice-Chairman of the Republican Town Committee and was appointed as a Commissioner on the Board of Public Assistance and Board of Tax Review.
She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, singing, dancing and music. An avid sports follower, Helen loved to watch the UCONN Men's and Women's teams. She was happiest when hosting Christmas Eve at her home, which she did for over 60 years. She loved to cook, and her iconic homemade pizza will be missed by all.
Helen is survived by her sons, Marc D. Stango of Waterbury with whom she made her home and Christopher M. Stango and his wife Jane of Oakville; her grandchildren Jennifer Garzone and her husband Franco of Oakville, Daniel Stango and his wife Kerry of Watertown, Maria Stango of Oakville, Theresa Stango of Oakville, Robert Stango of Oakville, Christopher Stango of Meriden, Matthew Stango of Oakville, and James Stango of Oakville. She also leaves her great-grandchildren Mya Albino, Genevieve Garzone, and Luca Stango as well as her brother Thomas D. Manzi and his wife Donna of Bristol and her brother-in-law Timothy Stango and his wife Madeline of Watertown as well as several nieces and nephews and many cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Aldo A. Manzi.
Helen's family would like to thank Norma Barnett, her caregiver, for the outstanding and compassionate care shown to Helen.
