Born in Passaic, NJ, on November 15, 1937, Joe was the son of the late Joseph Rich, Sr. and Josephine (Alaimo) Rich. He grew up in Nutley, NJ, where he developed a lifelong love of sports, curiosity for how things worked, and a keen sense of duty to his country.
After graduating from Bloomfield Technical School, he learned his love of machine design. Joe proudly served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1964. His time in service sparked a lifelong interest in history and world affairs-interests he continued to explore throughout his life.
In 1967, Joe married the love of his life, Kathy (Crefasi), with whom he shared fifty-eight wonderful years. Together, they made their home in Blairstown beginning in 1981, coming from East Rutherford, Joe worked as a machine designer for Colgate-Palmolive in Piscataway, NJ, where his creativity and critical thinking skills led to several innovations and three patents.
Joe had a curious and inventive mind and was always tinkering with innovative ideas-often inspired by his fascination with engineering, history, and even "top secret" projects he would dream up for fun. Outside of work, he loved watching sports, especially cheering on his beloved New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed following politics and was a devoted viewer of Fox News. Joe enjoyed his vacations at the Outer Banks in North Carolina, Hawaii, Florida Keyes, Savanah South Carolina, Maine, and Canada.
Joe will be remembered for his sharp wit, inventive spirit, and deep love for his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his daughters Kristine Ceres (Patrick) and Adrienne Rich-Giuliano; his brother, Philip Rich; and several nieces and nephews and his devoted dog Koal. He was predeceased by his brother, James Rich, and his sister, Patricia Salmoni.
Joseph's ingenuity, humor, and steadfast devotion to his loved ones will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
