Joseph Richard Sgroi passed away on January 11th at the age of 42. He was born on November 24th,1979. Joe had a cherished wife Jenny (Lachapelle) and two loving daughters, Charlotte (7) and Georgia (3). He is also survived by his beloved parents Roy and Kathy, and a younger brother Michael (Melissa) and his Grandpa. He treasured his extended family whom he loved dearly, including his in-laws, Joe and Colleen Lachapelle, and brothers-in-law Jeff (Lisa) and Nick (Lisa), together with all of his nieces and nephews.
Joe was born and raised in Michigan. He attended St. Michaels in Livonia and Detroit Catholic Central High School. Joe graduated from the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan Law School. He lettered at Michigan as a football player.
After law school, Joe joined Honigman LLP in Detroit. Joe was a firm partner where he was the leader of the firm's Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group as well as a member of the firm's Board of Directors. He served as one of the firm's Chief Value Partners. His awards as an attorney are too long to list but include being named multiple times in Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business.
Outside of his career, Joe was a family man who put Jenny, Charlotte, and Georgia above all else. They enjoyed boating and water sports together. They cooked together, traveled together, and enjoyed spending time together. He shared his fondness for music, sports, and Harry Potter passionately with his girls. Friends and family were a big part of Joe's life.
Joe was taken from us far too early, but his legacy will never be forgotten. We will all cherish our time with Joe and our many memories of him. He will be greatly missed.

I knew Joe from working on a few projects with him through GM.

Even though we had only met once in person and shared a few conference calls together, he had made a strong and favorable impression on me. Joe was personable and an admirable leader who always showed up in full for himself and others.

He will be missed. May his memory live on through the positivity he brought to the world and his loved ones.
